Albums

Toto's discography includes 13 studio albums and four live albums. There are also a few compilations. In addition to releasing original music, Toto has also done collaborations with other artists and on soundtracks for films. The group has won a number of Grammy Awards for their work.

Before the formation of Toto the group, members worked as session work for other musicians. David Paich, the son of session drummer Marty Paich, and Jeff Porcaro (the brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro) all performed on Boz Scaggs’ 1975 album Silk Degrees. The collaboration led to the formation of Toto in 1976.

Turn Back, Toto's third studio album, was criticized by critics due to lacking hit singles. In 1985 the group's lead singer Fergie Fredericksen left the group, and they held auditions to find a replacement frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the band recorded the album Fahrenheit in 1986.

In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by scouring through demos and tapes from the past to release a special album called Toto XX. The album was well-received by fans, and Toto began the tour with former members Bobby Kimball Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

In the course of the tour for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun the drummer Leland Sklar departed from the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live set called Falling in Between, which included recordings from the tour as well as an interview with the band.

Toto is an American rock band that was formed in 1977 in Van Nuys, Greater Los Angeles. The group of six includes guitarist/vocalist Steve Lukather, bassist David Paich, keyboardist/vocalist Steve Porcaro, drummer Jeff Porcaro and guitarist and vocalist Joseph Williams. The eclectic mix of influences within the group is what has made it one of the most well-known groups of all time. The music of the group has been featured in more than 200 TV and movie shows, including The Godfather and The Prince of Egypt.

The album Toto IV released in 1983 won them worldwide praise. The group embarked on the world to promote the album after its success. During the tour, Bobby Kimball, the lead singer, was detained for drug charges. At the end of the tour the band decided to let him go and hire guitarist and singer Joseph Williams to take his place. David Hungate, the drummer was also let go following the tour. Leland Sklar took over his place.

Toto has released a number of music videos. The band has released a variety of compilation videos and DVDs. The most watched video by the group is "Africa" which has more than one billion views on YouTube. The video is set in a library, where the band performs on top of the stack of African books.

The success of the single helped Toto regain their popularity following their previous album, Turn Back, failed to chart in the United States.

Toto began a global tour following the release their album. The group included touring musicians Lenny Castro and Shannon Forrest. Warren Ham, Shem von Schröeck and Shem von Schroeck were also part of the group. Steve Lukather also released his second solo record, Luke.

In 1985, Fergie Frederiksen, Toto's drummer, left the group for personal reasons. The group held an audition to find an alternative for Frederiksen.

Before and during the formation of Toto, its members did sessions for a variety of artists. Toto was founded after Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and Boz Scaggs recorded Silk Degrees. Keyboardist Paich was a regular on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

In 1998, Toto began working on a project titled Old Is New. This album included three new tracks, as well as several finished recordings of songs from the past. The album was a huge success all over the world and the band went on a worldwide tour to promote the album.

Toto is famous for their hit song "Africa" Recently, the band reunited to promote their new album, All In. The album, which was released on the 6th of November, 2018 included three new tracks from their forthcoming album 40 Trips Around the Sun as well as completed recordings of four previously released tracks featuring Jeff Porcaro playing drums and Mike or Steve Porcaro playing bass. The album also included a cover version of Weezer’s song "Hash Pipe" that the band added after hearing it on the radio.

In addition, the group has recorded soundtracks for numerous television and film productions.

Toto was formed in Los Angeles by high school age friends drummer David Paich, guitarist Steve Lukather, and brothers Jeff and Mike Porcaro. The group became one of the most well-known rock bands in the world and has sold more than 40 million albums. Toto continues to play sold-out shows all over the world and has been awarded numerous awards and accolades. Toto's members are serious musicians but they don't take themselves too seriously and this has led to the success of their music.
